ARCHIVE·final capture 2026-08-26
The live pipeline ran 2026-08-12 through 2026-08-26 and has been decommissioned. Panels show its final capture; the historical record below is complete.
NOW · ARRIVALS & CONDITIONS

Traffic and weather on the three fields

Positions polled every 30 seconds from ADS-B; weather every 5 minutes from NWS stations on each field. Every panel below derives from those two feeds — nothing is read from a delay product. The pipeline ran 2026-08-12 through 2026-08-26; panels show its final capture.

EVENT · THE AUGUST 20 STORM

The night the arrival rate collapsed

Severe flash-flood warnings covered all three fields from 21:39 to 00:15 UTC — the worst conditions of the run. The arrival rate fell 74% in four hours, and the recovery push after midnight carries the day's concentration of holding patterns and go-arounds. This window is preserved from the archived record.

PROOF · THE VALIDATION LOOP

The detector grades itself against independent truth, daily

Arrivals, holding patterns and go-arounds exist in no feed — they were derived from raw telemetry by per-aircraft state machines, then matched every morning against OpenSky's separate arrival records (same aircraft, same airport, within ten minutes). Only arrivals have ground truth; holding and go-arounds are shown but not independently scored. Unscored days display as gaps, never as zeros — the final day of operation is unscored because its ground truth publishes the following morning.

RECORD · 38 YEARS OF WEATHER COST

What weather has cost NYC arrivals since 1987

181 million federal on-time records, rebuilt into one row per airport-day and joined with historical METAR. Flight categories are derived from each day's worst observed visibility and ceiling. The 1990s are absent because the source publishes no files for that decade.
